What is the difference between marine valves and general valves

There are certain differences between marine valves and general valves in terms of application scenarios, performance requirements, design and manufacturing, as follows:

Application scenarios
Marine valves: mainly used in the marine environment to control the pressure, flow rate, and flow direction of fluids (such as seawater, fresh water, fuel oil, lubricating oil, steam, etc.) in the ship's pipelines, ensuring the normal operation of various systems of the ship, such as the main seawater inlet and outlet pipelines, fuel delivery systems, etc.
General valves: have a wide range of applications, covering multiple fields such as industry, construction, and municipal engineering. Used in power plants to control the operation of boilers and turbines; Control the normal operation of the entire production equipment and process flow in petroleum and chemical production.
Performance Requirement
Marine valves: They need to meet the special environmental conditions of the ship, such as vibration, impact, humidity, salt spray corrosion, etc. For example, marine valves should have good corrosion resistance to adapt to corrosive media such as seawater; It should be able to withstand the vibration and impact during the navigation of the ship without damage, ensuring its reliability and stability.
General valves: There are different performance requirements according to different application scenarios. In ordinary industrial pipelines, greater emphasis may be placed on the precision of valve control over medium pressure and flow rate; In building water supply and drainage systems, more attention may be paid to the sealing and durability of valves, but it is usually not necessary to consider the harsh and special environmental conditions of ships.
Design and Manufacturing
Marine valves: In order to meet the special needs of ships, there are some special requirements in design and manufacturing. Its design needs to consider the limitations of installation space, usually with a compact structure; In terms of manufacturing processes, it is necessary to comply with relevant ship industry standards and specifications. In addition, ball valves and butterfly valves with the advantages of light weight, small size, good sealing performance, and quick and convenient opening and closing have gradually been applied on ships, and will increasingly replace globe valves and gate valves, improving the performance of ships.

General valves: designed and manufactured according to the corresponding general industrial standards, which have strong universality. Design and manufacturing are mainly based on specific industrial requirements, such as the chemical industry may have specific requirements for valve materials and sealing levels, but overall they are not strictly limited by the special environment of ships and industry standards like marine valves.
Functional Features
Marine valves: Some marine valves have special functions. Marine control valves can quickly eliminate condensed water, prevent steam leakage, and eliminate other non condensable gases to ensure the efficiency and safe operation of ship equipment; Marine safety valves can automatically open when the pressure inside equipment, vessels, or pipelines exceeds the allowable value, and automatically close in a timely manner when the pressure drops to the specified value, protecting the safety of ship pipelines and equipment.
General valves: The function is designed according to specific usage scenarios. Although there are basic functions such as cutting off, adjusting, and safety protection, in terms of special functions, they are not specifically designed for ship operation characteristics like marine valves.
