According to different structures and application scenarios, marine gate valves can be divided into many types: flange gate valves, wedge gate valves, parallel gate valves, double gate valves, manual gate valves, hydraulic gate valves, electric gate valves, etc.; the gate valve gate moves vertically along the center line of the channel to open and close, with the advantages of small fluid resistance and unrestricted medium flow direction, suitable for large-diameter pipeline systems such as seawater and fresh water. However, the opening and closing speed of the gate valve is relatively slow, and the sealing surface is easy to wear. The bronze material of the gate valve has good seawater corrosion resistance and is often used for valves in direct contact with seawater;

According to the frequency of use and working environment of the valve, a reasonable regular maintenance plan should be formulated. The maintenance content includes cleaning the dirt and impurities on the surface and inside of the valve, inspecting and replacing the valve seals, lubricating and maintaining the valve operating mechanism, and checking whether the valve connection bolts are loose. With low flow resistance, two-way sealing and large-diameter adaptability, marine gate valves have become the preferred cut-off equipment for core pipelines (seawater, ballast water, and oil) of ships, but they should be avoided in flow regulation scenarios. Marine gate valves have dual flow directions. They are not limited to one-way flow and are not affected by the flow direction of the medium. Therefore, gate valves are suitable for pipelines where the flow direction may change. In addition, they are easier to install than other more complex types of valves.
